Originally called Kylemore Castle, this facility was built in 1867-1871 as a private residence for Mitchell and Margaret Henry. In 1920, it was purchased by Benedictine nuns, who opened a girls boarding schools three years later. The school and abbey are both still operational, but unfortunately the nuns have announced plans to close the school in 2010.
